This year, the HoMMUNC XXXVIII staff has chosen to work with the Yemeni American Merchants Association (YAMA) for our conference service project. YAMA is a New York City-based non-profit organization that seeks to uplift people of color and their businesses through community outreach, small business support services, community heritage events, empowerment workshops, GED classes, and immigration assistance services. Founded during the Yemeni Bodega Strike at Borough Hall in Brooklyn in 2017, the organization sought to protest President Trump's Executive Order Travel Ban. Since then, YAMA has grown tremendously and continues to touch the lives of thousands each year through its programming. Today, YAMA is a staunch champion of America’s AMESA community and strives to include their voices in America’s ever-evolving political landscape.
